Without chair glides wooden floors of your beautiful house can be damaged and you would have no other option than to repair the damaged section. These not so expensive chair glides can save you from the pain of a full floor restoration. Here are some reasons why it is wiser to get some chair glides:

- Some chair glides have the height balancing ability, which provides stability to the chair.
- It increases lifespan of the chair. Well balanced chairs (especially wooden antiques) will last longer with an equal weight distribution through all legs. Chair glides can be used for balancing, thus increasing durability.
If your chairs contain casters, then the use of a office chair mat would be the best option. Otherwise you can go for chair glides. There are few types of glides that you can use based on the requirements.
Felt/Carpet Glides
These are adhesive glides and therefore easier to fix. They are also known as stick-on glides and they're ideal for wooden and any type of polished floors. However, they may require replacements from time to time if the chairs are being moved often. This forces the adhesive glides to move off from the center, therefore exposing the chair leg to the floor. You can also find screw-type felt glides. Though they are a bit hard to get fixed, they do last longer and you'll be able to adjust the height of individual glides to remove any imbalances.
PVC/Teflon Plastic Glides
PVC Glides have a tack like point on one side, that helps them to stick to the chair leg. They are great for wooden chairs, but not for shiny floors.
There are also combined glides available today with a PVC base and a felt cover. These are perfect for any type of flooring.
Patio Chair Glides
Patio chairs are used regularly in outdoors as well as in court yards. Therefore you can use plastic patio chair glides (PVC) for this purpose. Since many patio chairs and furniture are light-weight, it's not that hard to attach the glides.

You can get a regular set of chair glides for as low as $5-$10. They usually come in sets of 4 pieces. You can also get 8 piece sets with large pads for the tables as well. If you have unique requirements (eg. such as wire chair frames), it's best to contact a manufacturer, because most hardware shops will not stock these products.
